Who this is for
EU importers of iron and steel goods under CN headings in CBAM Annex I — flat products (7208), long products, tubes and pipes (7304–7306), wire rod (7213, 7217), fasteners (7318) and forgings and other articles (7326).
What counts for steel
Direct emissions only. The one exception: indirect emissions of sintered-ore precursors carry into steel goods. The engine applies the exception automatically when a precursor is marked as sinter.
What to ask your supplier for
- Fuel use (natural gas, coal, coke, diesel) by month.
- Production in tonnes by product and CN code.
- Precursors — crude steel, billets, DRI — with origin and any emissions data they already have.
- Monitoring plan version and verifier (if any).
The timeline
- 1 Feb 2027 — CBAM certificate sales begin.
- 30 Sep 2027 — first annual declaration for 2026 imports.
- 1 Sep 2026 — verifier registration opened; reports from January 2027.
Which plan to pick
If you buy from fewer than 10 steel suppliers, Starter (€99/mo) is enough. Over 10 suppliers, or you want verifier booking, go to Pro (€299/mo).
