Who this is for
EU importers of unwrought aluminium (7601) and aluminium bars, rods, profiles, wire, plates, sheets and strip (7604–7607), as well as foil and most downstream aluminium articles in Annex I.
What counts for aluminium
Direct emissions only. Electricity used to run smelters, extrusion presses and rolling mills is not added. The data that matters is:
- Fuel used on-site (natural gas, diesel, LPG).
- Process emissions from anode consumption at smelters.
- Production in tonnes per product and CN code.
- The origin and emissions of unwrought aluminium your supplier buys in.
What to ask your supplier
- Fuel bills for 12 months.
- Tonnes produced per product.
- Where their unwrought aluminium came from (smelter name and country, plus any verified emissions data).
- Scrap input share and route (clean/dirty scrap).
Common questions
- What if my supplier mixes new and recycled aluminium? The engine prompts the supplier to split the mass flow. Recycled share typically carries lower embedded emissions.
- Does PFC come into it? Yes — the engine includes anode-effect PFC emissions where the supplier reports them. If they don’t, the EU default applies.
